It was determined that the passenger car had failed to stop for the pickup, causing a collision in the 1100 block of Main Street. The motorist left the scene of the crash but was later stopped in the 600 block of Proctor Avenue, according to Capt. Bob Kluntz.
While later speaking with both drivers, an officer noted that driver of the passenger car had glossy, watery eyes and slurred speech and his breath smelled of alcoholic beverages.

A third-party caller reported the incident. Police were told that the man’s spouse and children were also present in the apartment. Upon arrival, Elk River police deployed officers around the apartment, according to Sgt. Jeff Mordal of the Elk River Police Department.
Police spoke to the wife by phone. Eventually the police told her that he wanted to talk to her husband. Once he did, officers confronted him and secured him. He did not have a weapon outside, but there were weapons in the apartment, Mordal reported. The man was cooperative with police.
The wife said that he did not make any threats toward her or the kids, just himself.
The man was sent to Mercy Hospital for an evaluation. No criminal charges were made. The weapons were taken for safekeeping, and the officers confirmed that the wife and children were safe and unhurt.
