Hockey: Elk boys blank Champlin Park 2-0

Elk River scored twice in the first period and made the lead stand up for 2-0 victory over Champlin Park on Thursday in Champlin.

The Elks’ fourth shutout win of the year gives them an 11-4 conference and 14-10 overall record with one game left in the regular season.

Chase Springman scored 9:05 into the game, Wyatt Ege assisting, and Tim Sanford made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 11:50.

The Elks outshot the Rebels 39-16 with Maclean Berglove in the nets for the shutout. Tyler Nelson stopped 37 of 39 for the Rebels (4-10-3 conference, 7-13-4 overall). Each team was 0-for-4 on power plays.

The Elks will close conference play hosting Armstrong on Saturday, 7 p.m. They will start sectionals hosting Andover on Tuesday.
