Joe Evans

I am on the Elk River Knowledge Bowl team and as for my proudest accomplishments, I would have to say that they are my academic successes like maintaining my GPA and standardized testing scores.

What is your favorite class and why? What is your favorite subject?

My favorite class right now would be A.P. biology. I really do find the topic to be extremely interesting and it also offers a challenge that I don’t ordinarily find.

What are your future plans?

I intend to go to a four-year college, where or for what I have not fully decided. I do know that I intend to go into some sort of research-driven job in a scientific field.

What are your hobbies and/or personal interests?

In my free time, I enjoy reading and spending time with friends. I also enjoy trivia-based games, so I also participate in Knowledge Bowl at my school.  During the summer I enjoy waterskiing and wakeboarding or just being out on a lake.

Who is your hero, if you have one, and why?

I don’t have any specific hero in mind, but I do look up to all the people in history who have asked a question or seen a problem and have gone out and fixed it. Taking an active role in shaping our world or how we understand it has always seemed like an admirable thing.

Tell of a most memorable experience that relates to school, personal interests or a hobby:

A memorable experience that I had would be homecoming 2012. I went to the game and had a lot of fun. I and many other people didn’t even pay much attention to the game but it is a very fun place to be.

How do you demonstrate leadership?

If I am in a situation where a task needs to be completed, I just do my very best to make sure that I remain on task and do the job to the best of my ability.

How do you approach academics to achieve success?

When it comes to my schoolwork, the only real trick that I have to it is being persistent. If there is a large project or a topic I don’t understand, I keep working at it until I get done, whatever it is that I was doing.

What special projects have you done, in or out of school? A special project that I had done recently was planting lake shore vegetation to improve the water quality and habitats of a local lake.

Why do you think you won this award?

I would guess that what earned me this award would be my academic successes and commitment to working and helping out in a classroom environment.

What does it mean to you?

This award is something I appreciate very much. It feels good knowing that my hard work in school is noticed.
