Basketball: Royals tip Big Lake 41-40 on Paulsrud free shots
Taylor Paulsrud sank two free shots with less than a second remaining, giving the Rogers Royals 41-40 win over Big Lake there on Thursday evening.
Paulsrud was fouled shooting and went to the line with .8 second remaining. Her clutch free throws marked the third time Rogers has won a game just before the buzzer, the other two won by three-pointers.
Paulsrud scored 11 pints and Kirsten Heikkinen eight for Rogers (5-3 conference, 15-9 overall).
Emily Gruber led the upset bid by Big Lake (0-8 conference 9-14 overall) and Bridgette Audette added nine.
“Buckets were not falling for the Royals,” said coach Karlee Anderson, “and calls were not in our favor either, but we fought through and got the wiln. Not a pretty one, but every girl who played made an impact on the outcome.”
Rogers will host Buffalo on Tuesday.
