The Elk River skaters came up empty this week in games against the top two teams in the Northwest Suburban Conference.
The Elks were stymied by Centennial 3-0 at home on Saturday evening, falling into fourth place with a 10-4 conference mark and 13-10 overall.
They got shelled by first-place Blaine 9-3 on Tuesday. Blaine is 14-0, Centennial 11-2 and Maple Grove 11-4 for the top three spots in the 10-team conference. The Elks had lost close games to Blaine (5-4) and Centennial (3-2) earlier in the season.
Centennial handed the Elks their first shutout of the season with goalie Patrick Munsen stopping 25 shots.
Ryner Gorowsky gave Centennial a 1-0 lead on a power play slap shot 11:09 into the second period. Hans Gorowsky made it 2-0 with a back-hand goal crossing the net at 9:31 of the second period and Ryner Gorowsky added an empty-netter at 16:27.
Elk goalie Maclean Berglove stopped 29 of 31 shots.
A fight in the second period result in ejections for Elk River’s Austin Larson and Centennal’s Will Juergens.
The Elks will close the regular season next week, at Champlin Park on Thursday and at home vs. Armstrong on Saturday.
