Elk River wrestlers closed their season wilt a 41-29 loss to the Blaine Bengals on Thursday at Blaine, a result their coach called disappointing.
“It was a hard loss. We got outworked,” said Paul Nelson, noting that the Elks lost four of five close decisions and “too many pins (three)” in losing a winnable match.
The Elks missed a chance to finish above .500 as they fell to a final 5-5 in the NWSC and will take a 7-7 record into a very strong Section 7AAA tournament. The loss also probably dropped them to a low seed.
Winning for the Elks were Garrett Cadon, Andrew Perry and Evan Caldon by pin, Kyle Ziemer by tech fall, and Alexander Schmitz by decision.
Section team will start next Thursday or Friday depending on where the Elks are seeded.
