Kaylee Jondahl tied a team vault record held by two past state champions as the unbeaten Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman gymnasts won their regular season finale Thursday evening.
The Elks beat Park Center 139.475 to 114.95 at home, wrapping up their fifth straight NWSC title and fourth straight unbeaten dual meet season. The Elks were 9-0 this year and have 42 straight wins.
Jondahl scored 9.85 with a layout tsukahara vault. She matched the record held by her sister Jena (2010) and Charise Schrupp (1994). Schrupp was state all-around champion, and Jena was a state champion in two other events, floor and bars.
Jondahl won bars and floors as well and totaled 37.375. She had a fall and another mistake on beam for an 8.40.
Krista Kovar won beam with 8.525, the first time any Elk other than Jondahl has won an event this year. Kovar was second all-around with 34.875 and Katie Fleck third with 34.075.
It was Senior Night, with coach Jackie Deiley had all four active seniors competing in all four events: Jondahl, Jessica Sadlowsky, Kendra Hambleton, and Lindsey Koosman. Courtney Bursch, is sidelined with an injury.
The Elks will try for state berths next Saturday in Section 8AA at St. Cloud Tech.
