Basketball: Thunder girls beat Hornets 66-56, end skid at five
Lexi Weimeri led with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Zimmerman Thunder beat Big Lake 66-56 at home Thursday evening.
The Thunder (8-14) snapped a five-game losing streak. Both their starting guards are injured.
“Lexi had a great game. That was our first double double of the year,” said coach Lance Dalbey. “We had good balance, too.”
Heather McCormick added 15 points, Brooke Borchardt 13 and Sabrina Steinke 11 for the Thunder (8-14).
Mady Peterson tallied 17 and Bre Goracke 16 for the Hornets (8-12).
Season scoring leader Lexi Funaro (13 ppg) is out for the year with a fracture of her ankle. The other starting guard, Kaitlyn Mason, has a thumb injury. Dalbey hopes she can return by late next week. They’ve both missed the last three games.
The Thunder will play at Milaca on Tuesday.
