Tara Durham scored 39 points for Foley as the Falcons defeated Zimmerman 69-54 on Tuesday evening in Foley.
Heather McCormick scored 11 points and Sabrina Steinke and Jami Schuster 8 each for the Thunder (7-14).
“We put (Durham) at the line a lot and she was very good from the free throw line,” said Lance Dalbey, Thunder coach. “She is getting better and better, and the Foley team is getting better because their team is learning how to get her the ball more.”
Foley has a 15-6 record.
Zimmerman’s starting guards Lexi Funaro (13 ppg) and Kaitlyn Mason (6 ppg) are sidelined with injuries, and the Thunder got into early foul trouble with Steinke and Lexi Wiemeri each called for three in the first half.
“Our team played hard-nosed defense the entire game,” said Dalbey, “but got ourselves in foul trouble early. With two of our guards out, we obviously aren’t as deep, so we were forced to play with foul trouble.”
The Thunder were 11-for-20 on free shots, after faltering against Princeton, too (14-for-29). “ We need to shoot better,” said the coach.
On the plus side, the Thunder had only 12 turnovers.
Zimmerman will host Big Lake on Thursday evening.
