Hockey: Elk girls lose NWSC finale to champ Andover 4-2

The Elk River girls lost their regular-season finale to conference champion Andover 4-2 thereĀ  Saturday and will take a 10-12-3 record into sectionals.

Scoring for the Elks were Samantha Westgaard (Maddie Gregersen assisting) and Kaylee Forster (Abbie Canton, Breanna Simon).

Sydney Porter drilled two goals for the Huskies and Paige Dale and Mikayla Goodin had one each.

AndoverĀ  outshot the Elks 35-23. Elk goalie Kim Scott stopped 31 of 35. Andover’s Maddie Rooney stopped 21 of 23.

The Elks, defending champs with only two starters back, finished seventh among 10 teams in the Northwest Suburban Conference with a 6-9-2 record.

The Section 7AA tournament, mostly Iron Range teams, starts Thursday. The Elks are 2-0-1 against section teams and likely to get seeded high enough for a home game.
