Chase Springman and Tim Sanford delivered two goals apiece and the Elk River Elks grabbed a 5-4 over Maple Grove on the Crimson’s ice Thursday evening.
Springman got the decisive goal on a power play 5:55 into the last period for a 5-4 lead, assisted by Sanford and Peter Jones.
Andrew Zerban had the other goal and Maclean Berglove stopped 24 of 28 shots as the Elks improved to 10-2 in the NWSC and 13-8 overall. Jake Jaremko made two assists and Wyatt Ege and Blake Hillman one each.
Maple Grove (8-4 conference, 10-11 overall) led 2-0 after just 91 seconds on goals by Sam Valerius and David Brumm.
However, Zerban and Springman countered to knot the score 2-2 in the same period. Then Sanford scored twice in the second period while Joe Franta got one for Maple Grove.
The Crimson, trying to square accounts after losing to the Elks 4-2 in December, pulled even on a Chris Freemark goal 4:04 into the third period, but Springman regained the lead less than two minutes later.
The Elks had a 37-28 edge in shots. The Crimson goalie, John Danielson, stopped 32 of 37.
In the NWSC, Blaine is 12-0, Centennial 9-1-2 and the Elks 10-2.
The Elks will take on Blaine there on Tuesday.
