Hockey: Maple Grove halts Elk girls’ win streak 4-2

Elk River’s five-game win streak was snapped by Maple Grove 4-2 on Tuesday evening as the Crimson scuttled the Elks on their home ice.

The Elks had two power-play goals, by McKenna Wesloh in the first period and Abbie Canton in the second. But the Crimson killed seven other power plays.

Lexy Dorosh, Paige Naasko (power play), Maddie Woo and Summer Thibodeau each got one past Elk goalie Jessica Edwards.  The Crimson were 1-for-5 on power plays.

Edwards stopped 19 of 23 and Maple Grove’s Whitney Padgett stopped 23 of 25.
Getting assists for the Elks were Canton and Kaylee Forster on Wesloh’s goal, and Forster and Breanna Simon on Canton’s goal.

The Elks, who tied Maple Grove 2-2 on Dec. 11, fell to 6-8-2 in conference and 10-11-3 overall. The Crimson are 9-6-2 and 12-9-2.

The Elks will try salvage a .500 regular season when they close the NWSC schedule at Andover on Saturday, 3 p.m.
