Basketball: Sharp’s 3-pointer lifts Rogers over Buffalo 41-38
A last-second three-pointer by Rachel Sharp gave the Rogers Royals a 41-38 win over the Buffalo Bison on Friday evening in Buffalo.
The Royals rallied from a 38-33 deficit in the last two minutes, tying the score on a Lindsey Dorr post move and a three-pointer by Kelsey Frain before sending Buffalo to the free throw line. Buffalo missed the free throw.
“We called time out with 29 seconds left, and worked the clock, reversing the ball two or three times,” said coach Karlee Anderson. “We got it to Rachel and she hit one from the top of the key.”
Those were the only points of the game for Sharp, a senior guard.
This was Rogers’ second dramatic road win via a three-point shot in two weeks. Taylor Anderson pulled out a 49-48 win at Staples-Motley on Jan. 8 when she sank a three with :03 left, was fouled and added the free throw.
Dorr netted 12 points and Taylor Paulsrud nine for the Royals, who won without shooting a single free throw.
Emily Spier, 6-foot-1 forward, scored 15 for the Bison (0-4 conference, 5-13 overall), who were 6-for-10 on free shots.
Rogers (3-1 conference, 12-6 overall) will host Shakopee on Tuesday.
