Led by Kaylee Jondahl’s best performance as an Elk, the unbeaten Elk River-Roger-Zimmerman gymnasts scored a season-best in defeating the Coon Rapids Cardinals 142.175 to 114.725 Thursday evening.
In their final home meet, the Elks, 7-0 in duals, got over 140 for the first time in 10 outings, counting multi-school meets.
“The beauty of it is, we’ve still got plenty of room for improvement,” said coach Jackie Deiley.
Jondahl rolled up a 38.575 total, just .1 behind the 38.675 scored by Northfield’s Bailey Dupay on Tuesday. Those two are 1-2 in the Star-Tribune metro honor roll.
The fluid, high-flying Jondahl had season-bests on vault (9.65), bars (9.7) and beam (9.6).
Krista Kovar was next with a personal-best 35.325. Kovar had been limited to one or two events in recent meets due to a back problem, but came back stronger than before.
Katie Fleck gave the Elks a third strong all-around of 34.375 despite one fall on beam.
Next for the Elks is a dual next Friday at Centennial, which is the last team to beat them in a dual meet, over four years ago (December of 2008).
