ERHS artists collect 12 Gold Keys in MN Scholastic awards

ERHS junior  Samantha Olson made a fashion statement with “Lolita Dripping Black.”


Elk River art students earned 12 Gold Keys in the Minnesota Scholastic Arts Awards program, from a field of 1,800 entries, announced art teachers Rana Nestrud and Damien Husen.

In Ceramics and Glass, ERHS senior Brandon O’Connor and junior Nikita Skorykh each earned three Gold Key awards.  Seniors Aaron Schwab, Nathan Myhre, and Hank Galinski, and junior Shelby Gracik, each earned one Gold Key.

In Fashion, junior Samantha Olson got a Gold Key for her dress entitled “Lolita Dripping Black.”

In Digital Art, senior Jordan Mathewson got a Gold Key.

Gold Key entrants will be displayed at College of Visual Arts in St. Paul Feb. 7 through March 3 and judged at the national level for possible medals, scholarships, and display in New York and Washington.

Receiving Silver Key, which will will be displayed in a digital slide show at the CVA, are seniors Chloe Moore (drawing), Emma Hohlen (ceramics and glass), Miroslav Skorykh (photography) and Rachel Guck (mixed media).

Honorable mentions went to Moore (mixed media, drawing), Skorykh (three photos), Myhre (ceramics and glass), senior Tyler Cundiff (mixed media) and junior Ryan Toth (ceramics and glass).
