CAER volunteer John Norgren has been named the city of Elk River’s Volunteer of the Month for January.
Norgren volunteers at the CAER food shelf in Elk River about four days a week. He helps take care of CAER’s recycling, does some carpentry and handyman work around the facility and picks up produce at Coborn’s. Every three weeks he also picks up 400-500 loaves of bread at Pan-O-Gold in St. Cloud.
For 23 years Norgren served on the Big Lake Township Board and as the town clerk. He currently is on the township’s road committee and also chairs the Bailey Station Cemetery Board.
He has been very active in his church, Emmanuel Lutheran in Elk River, where he has served on a variety of boards and committees including his current position on the Board of Elders.
He also has volunteered at the American Legion.
Norgren was recognized at the Tuesday, Jan. 22, Elk River City Council meeting, where Mayor John Dietz presented him with a plaque.
Norgren said he humbly accepted the recognition on behalf of the more than 300 CAER volunteers who keep that operation going smoothly.
