Hockey: Renowned Benilde-St. Margaret’s line powers 9-1 win over Elk boys

by Bruce Strand, Sports editor

The Star-Tribune ran a big feature on Benilde-St. Margaret’s first line on Tuesday, just in time for the Elk River Elks to read all about  the dynamic trio before taking them on that evening in St. Louis Park.

Grant Beese, T.J. Moore and Dan Labosky, the three seniors in the four-column color photo on Page C6, lived up to their clippings as far as the visitors were concerned, producing five goals in a 9-1 humbling of the Elks.

Beese delivered his 146th, 147th and 148th career goals, while Moore notched his 61st and Labosky got his 42nd (shorthanded). The trio has skated together for three seasons.

No. 4 Red Knights had two hat tricks, the other by Spencer Naas. They   improved to 13-5 including 3-4 against top-ten ranked teams.

The Elks (11-8) were down 6-0 before Tim Sanford got them on the scoreboard on a power play.

Elk goalie Maclean Berglove gave up six goals on 25 shots. Backup Chase Gauthier finished, allowing three on nine shots.
The Elks will play at Maple Grove on Thursday.
