The Osseo Orioles and their two 1,000-point seniors wore down the Elk River Elks 58-51 on Tuesday evening in Elk River.
Sharpshooting guard Janay Morton scored 22 points, with three 3-pointers and 7-for-8 at the line, and forward Phillis Webb added 17 for Osseo. The Orioles led 58-44 before they sent in the reserves.
The Elks had an early 16-9 lead with Jordyn Sohns scoring eight points already but Osseo was up 30-22 by halftime.
The Elks (6-6 conference, 10-7 overall) had their usual turnover problems, especially with Osseo’s quickness making them pay for any bad passes. The Orioles (10-2, 11-6) were able to disrupt the Elks when they applied full-court pressure.
The Elks did have occasions where they passed the ball smartly and got open layups against the zone or breakaway baskets.
Sohns finished with 15 points (4-for-5 at the line). Abi Scheid, 6-2 center, was guarded by the dynamic Webb and limited to 10 points. Scheid snagged double-digit rebounds and made several blocks. Shelby Gracik scored 9 points. The Elks were 10-for-13 at the line and made three 3-pointers.
The Elks will play at Coon Rapids on Friday.
