Hockey: Elk girls trip Duluth 2-0 for 4th straight win

A three-goal burst in the second period broke it open as Elk River thumped section rival Duluth 4-0 at home on Friday evening.

Jenna Gerber had a goal and two assists and Jessica Edwards made 18 saves asĀ  the Elks improved to 9-10-3 overall and 2-0-1 against section teams.

Abbie Canton scored in the first period, assisted by Gerber and Kaylee Forster.

Second-period goals were scored by Gerber (assisted by Breanna Simon and Forster), Haley William (Chelsey Petrich, Julia Miller) and Samantha Westgaard (Gerber).

Christina Enright got Duluth (9-11-2) on the board in the third period.

The Elks, who’ve won four straight, will be idle a week before hosting Coon Rapids on Saturday, Jan. 26.
