The Zimmerman Thunder girls beat the Mora Mustangs 47-25 at home on Thursday evening with a stout defensive effort.
Melissa Dorn scored 11 points, Lexi Funaro 10 and Brooke Borchardt 7 for the Thunder, now 2-5 in conference and 7-8 overall. Mora is 2-4 and 5-7.
“It was the best team defensive effort of the season, holding down Mora’s all-conference post and guard to 11 and 5 points,” said coach Lance Dalbey. “It was exciting to go to the defending conference champs and hold them down.”
He credited Amber Magnussen, Jami Schuster, Borchardt and Lexi Wiemeri for an outstanding job on the Mora posts, which are the Mustangs strength.
The Thunder will play Little Falls next Tuesday.
