Hockey: Elk girls blank Rebels 4-0 as penalty kill goes 9-for-9

The Elk River girls cruised to a 4-0 win over a team higher in the standings, Champlin Park, on the Rebels’ ice, on Tuesday evening.

Penalty kill was exceptional for the Elks as they were unscathed on nine power plays by the Rebels, while going 2-for-7 themselves.

The Elks (5-7-2 conference, 8-10-3 overall) had power play goals by Abbie Canton and Kaylee Forster (assisted by Chelsey Petrich).

Scoring even-strength were Canton (Breanna Simon assisting) and Julia Miller (McKenna Wesloh assisting).

The Elks had just a 25-24 edge in shots, with senior Kim Scott making 24 saves for the team’s third shutout of the season and first against a team with a winning record.

Maddy Foss was in goal for Champlin Park (8-6 conference, 11-9 overall).

Elk River will host Duluth on Friday evening.
