Elk River, Rogers, Zimmerman prepping for one-act play competition

One-act play competitions are coming up for theater departments at Elk River, Rogers and Zimmerman high schools.

Elk River

Elk River’s entry will be “The Puppet Show,” a drama, directed by Michelle Brooks. The play will debut at the Northwest Suburban Conference Festival at Champlin Park Tuesday, Jan. 22. Sub-section competition will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at Buffalo.  A public presentation the evening of Saturday, Jan. 26 at Zabee Theater will also include a non-competition play written by ERHS senior Adam Harbeneh called “The Music Box.”


Zimmerman’s entry is a drama, “No Problem,” directed by Jon Paleshewski. The play will debut at the Granite Ridge Conference Festival in Milaca Saturday, Jan. 19. Sub-section will be held at Chisago Lakes Saturday, Jan. 26. Local showings will be presented at the school Friday, Jan. 25, and for the public Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. (free admission). For the local audiences, ZHS will also present a non-competition one-act comedy called “The Audition.”


Rogers’ entry will be a scene from the drama “Rebel Without a Cause,” directed by Amanda Peterson. The play will debut at the Mississippi 8 Conference Festival Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. Michael-Albertville. The sub-section competition will be held Jan. 26 at Buffalo. A local showing will be presented Thursday, Jan. 17, at ERHS’s Zabee Auditorium, staring 7 p.m.
