Alleged drug sale in Elk River lot leads to arrest

Investigators from the Sherburne County Drug Task Force (DTF) arrested Andrew Wetzel, 22, of St. Cloud on Wednesday, Jan. 9, for first-degree sale of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

According to Sheriff Joel Brott, investigators with the DTF, while conducting a narcotics investigation, observed an alleged drug transaction occur in the Menards parking lot in Elk River. Upon completion of the transaction, investigators arrested Wetzel and took him into custody without incident. On scene, investigators seized two ounces of methamphetamine, cash and Wetzel’s vehicle.

Wetzel was booked into the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River, where he remains pending arraignment.

The DTF was assisted by the Elk River Police Department.
