Wrestling: Elks 6th at Cambridge-Isanti tourney, Caldon is lone champ

Elk River had one champion and one runner-up while placing sixth among eight teams at the Cambridge-Isanti Invitational on Saturday.

Prior Lake won with 238, followed by Cambridge-Isanti 196.5, Little Falls 142, Henry Sibley 108, Grand Rapids 96.5, Elk River 95, Blaine 92.5, and Brainerd 82.

Evan Caldon (18-3) was 132-pound champion, downing Prior Lake’s Ben Rock 5-0 in the championship round. He reached finals with pins against Brainerd’s Jake Zelinski in 1:07 and Little Falls’ Axel Lange in 3:26.

Garrett Caldon (14-4) placed second at 106 with a pin, overtime decision, and 3-2 loss to Kenny O’Nell of Prior Lake in the finals.

Cole Moening (12-8) was 2-2 and placed fourth at 120. Andy Perry (6-10) was 2-2 and placed fourth at 126. Ryan Osberg (5-7) was 2-2 at 160 and placed fifth. Bobby Schmitz (6-7) was 2-2 and placed fourth at 195. Billy Saunders (2-4) notched his first two wins, going 2-2 and placing fifth at 220.

The Elks had no entry at 138 and 285, and went 0-2 at six weights.
