Swimming: Elks win 3 events at Spring Lake Park meet

The ERZ swimmers placed fourth among eight teams at the Spring Lake Park Invitational on Saturday, winning three events.

Andrew Bronshteyn won diving while Aaron Schwab took the backstroke and Nick Kopp won the breaststroke. In the 200 IM, Schwab was second and Kopp fourth. The medley relay of Spencer Hlavacheck, Nick Kopp, Alex Kopp and Schwab placed third.

Also placing top 10 were Hlavacheck, fourth in the 500; Jake Kohorst, eight in 100 freestyle; and Ben Kopp, ninth in the backstroke. Derek Meyer, 15th in butterfly in his first try at that event.

“We are battling illness and hope to be healthy soon,” said coach Denise Eidem, noting that one captain and two other swimmers had to be replaced. “Overall, we had a good meet with great effort from every member of the team today.”

The Elks will swim at Anoka on Thursday.
