Hockey: Royal boys trip Bluejackets 4-3 in OT on Spah goal

Brandon Spah scored the game-winner as the Rogers Royals won their conference opener 4-3 over Cambridge-Isanti at home Thursday evening.

Spah got the tie-breaker 2:28 into overtime, assisted by Spencer Marchand.

The Royals, who’ve won three straight conference crowns, began conference play with a 3-7-1 record, including four losses to teams ranked in the Class A top ten.

Spah had two goals and Tyler Antony and Jacob Walker had the others. Walker scored with 5:38 left in regulation to knot the score at 3-3.

Blake Timm assisted on goals by Antony and Spah, while Walker’s goal was assisted by Branden Cecil and Marchand.

Jacob Sylvester connected twice for the Bluejackes and Elliott Simon had the other goal.

Cambridge-Isanti has a seventh-grade goalie, Jacob Sibell, who made 38 saves.

Rogers had a 42-15 edge in shots with Blake Ternus stopping 12 for the Royals.

Rogers will host St. Francis on Tuesday.
