Shelby Gracik poured 26 points as Elk River scuttled Park Center 69-56 at home Friday evening.
The junior guard made 9 of 10 free shots and was 3-for-7 on 3-pointers in notching her career high.
Freshman center Abi Scheid laid in 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Jordyn Sohns added 9 points.
Coach Reed Caouette said his team did a good job against Park Center’s attempts to pressure them.
“We had a few turnovers and glitches, but for the most part we did a good job taking care of the ball,” said Caouette. “We beat their traps for a layups a few times, too.”
Defensively, the Elks zone defense kept the Pirates pace slower than they wanted, the coach said.
Cayla McMorris, top scorer in the conference, dropped in 22 points for the Pirates (5-6), including two late 3-pointers.
The Elks are 4-3 in conference and 8-4 overall, and 4-1 in the last five games. Park Center is 3-4 in conference and 5-6 overall.
The Elks will play at Champlin Park on Tuesday.
