Helpful Nowthen couple needs help themselves after fire

Dale and Rose Ann Ames have a history of “being there” when a helping hand is needed in the community of Nowthen where they have lived for 42 years.

After a Dec. 19 fire destroyed their home, the community has rallied to “be there” for them.

The Nowthen Lions is hosting a fundraiser Saturday, Jan. 12 at the First Baptist Church of St. Francis, 22940 St. Francis Blvd.

There will be a silent auction from 3 to 7 p.m. with a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. The cost will be $10 per person and $5 for children 10 years of age and younger.

The Ameses participate in community events in Nowthen. They belong to the Nowthen Senior Citizens Club, help to organize events, help the city office with mailings, and can always be found volunteering around town.

“Anytime the Lions need a helping hand, the Ameses are there, ready to help,” said Lion Judy Herrala.

Anyone interested in donating a silent auction item or donating to the family may contact Herrala at 763-753-6962 and she will arrange to pick up the item. Donations to the Ameses may be sent to the Lions Club at 22730 Waco St. N.W., Nowthen, Minn. 55070. Please write Ames Benefit on memo line.
