The Elk River Park and Recreation commissioners agreed Dec. 13 to close the Fresno Park skating rink and make Baldwin Park more passive.
The rink has seen little or no use in recent winters. The decision to not flood the Fresno Park rink this year was also made to protect the resurfaced basketball court at the park. There are nearby rinks available to those living in the area at Handke and Mississippi Oaks, city staff said.
Baldwin Park, which is adjacent to an apartment building, has seen its use plummet, too. Park commissioners agreed to remove its play equipment and add some trees to the park that could grow into shade trees to help the park’s transition. Barrington Park is the nearest park.
