Hockey: Elk boys thump Moorhead 8-3 in third-place game

Peter Jones led with four points as Elk River cruised past Moorhead 8-3 in the third-place game of the Sports Authority Holiday Tournament on Saturday evening.

Jones delivered two goals and two assists, while Andrew Zerban and Chase Springman also scored twice each, for the Elks, at St. Louis Park Arena.

Jake Jaremko and Ben Johnson had the other goals. Austin Larson and Wyatt Ege each assisted on two goals. Jack Geissleer, Jaremko, Zerban,  Colton Budreau, Isaac Schwab, and Reggie Lutz were all credited with an assist.

Springman leads the Elks with nine goals and Jaremko has eight.

The Elks got their eight goals on just 21 shots against Spuds goalie Peter McFarlane.

Maclean Berglove stopped 16 of 19 for the Elks. Austin Herdt, Tony Uglem and Jacob Odegard scored for Moorhead (7-5-1).

The Elks (7-5) beat Maple Grove 4-2 and lost to Benilde-St. Margaret’s 5-3 early in the tournament. They’ll resume conference play Thursday at Centennial.
