The Zimmerman Thunder had their first dual meets of the season and won two of three in a quad at home Friday, Dec. 21.
The Thunder lost to Litchfield 51-21, then defeated Albany 42-24 and Princeton 44-28.
“Princeton, that was an upset win for us,” said coach Pat Burch. “We had a coupe kids who were behind but wound up getting pins, so that turned it around for us.”
Tristin Pettit got a pin after trailing 11-2 at 138, and Mitch Gagnen got a pin when trailing 4-2 in the third period at 113.
Another highlight was Mitch Robinson’s 5-4 overtime decision of Litchfield’s No. 8 ranked Max Kaping at 220 pounds.
In the same match, Litchfield’s Tyler Jones got his 100th win edging one of Zimmerman’s leaders, Hunter Smith, 4-2 at 132.
The Thunder had a full lineup. They got two forfeits from Albany and one from Princeton. None of the Thunder had a 3-0 evening. Robinson, recent 100-win wrestler, had two wins and a forfeit. Pettit was 2-1.
Zimmerman, which had two invitational tournaments prior to the quadrangular, will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 5, in another tournament, at Mora.
