Lions award local artists

Maham Hussain, a student at Salk Middle School and Jessica Reckard, a student at VandenBerge Middle School have taken the first step by winning a local competition sponsored by the Elk River Lions Club. They were awarded $100 for their winning Peace Posters.

Caroline Silvola, a student at VandenBerge and Maggie Boedigheimer, a student at Salk were awarded $50 for their second-place entries by the Elk River Lions Club.

Hussain’s and Reckard’s posters were among the entries submitted worldwide in the 25th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Club International is sponsoring the contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.

“It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them, Lion Bob Brown said. “The Lions are proud that we were able to provide them with this opportunity.”
