The Zimmerman girls battled from behind but fell short against Princeton 55-52 at home on Tuesday night.
Princeton led by 14 in the first half. The Thunder trimmed the margin to 30-24 at the half and go within one point at 52-51 on a 3-pointer by Brooke Borchardt with 1:20 left. But Princeton answered with a basket and held on.
Lexi Wiemeri sank 13 points and Borchardt and Amber Magnuson 10 each. Lexi Funaro added 8, Kaitlin Mason 7 and Heather McCormick 4 for the Thunder (0-3 conference 2-5 overall).
Princeton is 3-0 in conference and 5-2 overall.
“Our girls never held a lead but kept it close,” said coach Lance Dalbey. “The kids played hard from start to finish but had to play from behind and with foul trouble almost the entire game.”
Zimmerman will play at Monticello on Friday.
