Hockey: Late power-play goals give Elks 4-4 tie with Cloquet-Esko-Carlton
Power play goals by Julia Miller and Chelsey Petrich, 50 seconds apart, gave Elk River a 4-4 tie with Cloquet-Esko-Carlton on Friday in Cloquet.
The Elks were down 4-2 late in the third period when C-E-C was whistled for checking from behind, resulting in a five-minute power play. Miller scored with 3:20 left and Petrich with 2:30 left to knot the score.
Miller had two goals and Mandy Sailor had the other for the Elks (1-6-3). Abby Canton made two assists, and McKenna Wesloh, Petrich, Breanna Simon, Ali Gallus and Mandy Sailor one each.
Carley Esse, Emily Gustafson, Corinna Johnson and Kailey Buhr scored for C-E-C (3-5-2).
Jessica Edwards made 24 saves for the Elks and Alyssa Acheson 35 for C-E-C.
