Basketball: Elk girls top Anoka 61-48
Shelby Gracik led with 22 points as the Elk River girls scuttled the Anoka Tornadoes 61-48 on Friday evening in Anoka.
Gracik, a junior guard who made 11 of 12 free shots, was one of four double-digit scorers. Freshman center Abi Scheid netted 14 points, senior guard Jordyn Sohns 11 and soph guard Amy Rollag 10 for the Elks (5-3). Scheid snagged 12 rebounds and Molli Detloff 10.
Elk coach Reed Caouette felt it was a good performance against a competitive team, noting that the Tornadoes (3-3) almost beat No. 6 ranked Osseo recently, losing 49-43.
Turnovers have been a big problem for the Elks but they did a much better job taking care of the ball on this night, the coach said.
The Elks will host Blaine on Tuesday evening.
