Hockey: Elk girls late surge ties Maple Grove 2-2

The Elk River-Zimmerman girls scored twice in the last seven minutes and tied Maple Grove 2-2 on Tuesday evening on the Crimson’s ice.

Olivia Rosenow and Lexy Dorash scored in the first period for the Crimson (6-3-2), who appeared headed for their sixth straight win.

But Breanna Simon got the Elks on the board at 10:10 of the third period with Kaylee Forster assisting. Then Forster tied the game at 15:25, with Simon assisting.

The Elks (1-6-2) were outshot 22-16 with Jessica Edwards in the nets making 20 saves.

The Elks will play at Cloquet-Esko-Carleton on Friday evening.
