Basketball: Three-pointers help Rogers boys beat Totino-Grace 73-58

Luke Pecka  sank five 3-point shots to help the Rogers Royals defeat Totino-Grace 73-58 on Tuesday evening in Fridley.

The Royals (1-2) led 32-31 at halftime, and started to pull away as Pecka made three trey’s early in the second half. The senior guard finished with 19 points.

The Eagles, who were opening their season,  stayed close until the end, when Rogers pulled away at the free throw line. Rogers finished 16-for-23 at the line while Totino-Grace was 7-for-16.

Cullen Loughlin scored 13 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 3 steals for Rogers. Ryan Gelle notched 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Reggie Meyer sank 21 for Totino-Grace, which schedules a late basketball opener each year because the football team usually advances to the Prep Bowl. The Eagles have five new starters this year.

Rogers will make a northern trip this weekend to play at Bemidji on Friday evening and at Moorhead on Saturday. Both are section opponents.
