St. Michael-Albertville stayed unbeaten by holding off an erratic Elk River squad 57-49 on Tuesday evening at ERHS.

The Knights (5-0) sank 20 of 29 free shots while the Elks (4-3) were bogged down by more than 30 turnovers, mostly on bad passes.

Senior guard Makenzie Bebo hit 16 points, including three 3-pointers, for STMA. Senior guard Jordan Hansen added 13 and junior guard Bobbi Brendefur 12.

Senior guard Jordyn Sohns netted 16 points for the Elk, with four 3-point shots, and sophomore guard Anna Rollag hit 13 points and two treys. STMA packed its defense on 6-2 center Abi Scheid, holding her to five points and one field goal, with the Elks’ numerous turnovers also limiting the talented freshman’s impact.

The Elks trailed 30-18 at the half, mainly due to 18 turnovers. They caught up at 41 and 48 but each time the Knights spurted back ahead.

The Elks will play at Anoka on Friday.
