In a hotly-contested hockey game that saw five players ejected, the Elk River Elks downed the Andover Huskies 4-1 on Saturday evening in Andover.
With the Elks leading 3-0 late in the second period, a fight broke out resulting in game misconduct penalties for Colton Budreau and Grant Bunker of the Elks, and Jared McComber and Zach Sitarz of the Huskies.
The Elks had a third player ejected when Chase Springman was called for cross-checking in the third period.
Scoring for the Elks were Andrew Zerban in the first period (Blake Hillman assisting), Jake Jaremko (Wyatt Ege) and Springman (Ben Johnson) in the second period, and Tim Sanford (Zerban) in the third period. Jaremko’s was a short-handed goal.
Elk junior goal Maclean Berglove made several difficult stops among his 18 saves. Nick Manley finally got one past Berglove in the final period with the Elks leading 4-0 at the time.
The Elks killed off a five-minute penalty after the cross-checking penalty. Andover was 0-for-5 and the Elks 0-for-2 on power plays.
The Elks are 2-0 in conference and 2-1 overall. Andover is 0-2 and 1-2.
The Elks will host Holy Family Catholic on Tuesday evening.
