Downtown’s first tree lighting attracts 250

An estimated crowd of about 250 people attended downtown Elk River’s  first tree-lighting ceremony, dubbed “Light It Up, Elk River.”

The event was held Saturday, Dec. 1 at River’s Edge Commons Park.

“I was so proud and pleased with the turnout. It really goes to show that Elk River is a strong community and we are truly powered by the good nature of the residents,” said Jennifer Wagner, who was the master of ceremonies.

Wagner said the event began coming together during a recent River’s Edge Downtown Business Association meeting.

“Just a few weeks later, with a lot of quick work and cooperation from so many individuals, I think we can undoubtedly say we put together a successful event that we are hopeful will become an annual event,” she said.

The River’s Edge Downtown Business Association worked closely with several organizations and individuals to make the event a success in its inaugural year, she said.
