A benefit for Dan Caouette will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Time Out Restaurant & Sports Bar, 19232 Evans St., Elk River.
The event will include door prizes, silent auction bidding from 1 to 4 p.m., food specials, and $5 raffle tickets.
In August and September, Dan received steroid injections, one in his neck and one in his lower back, for chronic pain. As a precaution, in October he went to the hospital for a spinal tap to check if he had infected steroids. Tests came back positive and he was administered an anti-fungal medication. He had a reaction to the medication and was taken to the University of Minnesota and was admitted.
Dan still encounters constant headaches and stomach discomfort. Recently he was diagnosed with another infection and received one more antibiotic.
He and his family are waiting to hear from the CDC or the doctors at the University of Minnesota Infectious Disease Department to positively identify the fungus, which is a new kind of fungal meningitis with unknown long-term effects.
Cash donations are being accepted at Wells Fargo Bank in the Dan Caouette Benefit Fund account.
The benefit is hosted by the Sherburne County 4-H Ricochet Riders.
