Elk River led comfortably all the way in a rough and ragged game against Coon Rapids, winning 57-42 at home on Thursday evening.
Junior guard Shelby Gracik led with 12 points, including two of the team’s five 3-pointers. Senior guard Jordyn Sohns and freshman center Abi Scheid added nine each.
The Elks had a big rebound edge led by Scheid, with Molly Detloff and Brittani Cornelius also strong on the boards.
Both teams made batches of turnovers.
The Elks led 31-16 at the half, with Jayne Langbehn nailing a 3-pointer from 25 feet at the buzzer.
Shayla Huffman and Raquel Hawkins scored nine points each for Coon Rapids (0-4) and Maegan McKernon eight. Huffman had three of their six 3-pointers.
The Elks (3-2) picked up their first conference win, after losing to a pair of ranked teams, Centennial and Osseo.
The Elks will host St. Michael-Albertville on Tuesday.
