Basketball: Monticello downs Thunder boys 79-59 in opener

The Zimmerman Thunder took a 79-59 beating from the Monticello Magic in their boys basketball opener at home Tuesday evening.

Will Bauman netted 23 points for Monticello, hitting 16 of 21 free shots. Gunnar Nemitz added 14 and Hayden Laimer 11.

Jake Wilson sank 24 points for the Thunder. Tanner Chambers was next with 8. The Thunder shot 17-for-55 on field goals and 19-for-32 on free shots.

The Thunder will host Cloquet on Friday evening.
