Santa Claus will arrive Saturday in Zimmerman

Breeze into Zimmerman this weekend to Celebrate the Season with style. Saturday, Dec. 1 only, the celebration features many businesses with prizes, activities and sales. Events are between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and include:

•Register at chamber member businesses for a chance to win a 32-inch flat screen TV, waterpark passes to Holiday Inn and Wild Woods waterpark, rounds of golf at Princeton Golf Course, or an overnight stay and dinner buffet for two at Grand Casino Mille Lacs.

•Horse-drawn wagon rides leave from Johnson’s Hardware Hank between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

•Word scramble and scavenger hunt (with a $200 cash prize) runs at the Civic Club from 11 a.m.–3 p.m.

•From 10 a.m.–4 p.m., things warm up at Nelson Nursery with a Holiday Boutique, Hot Cocoa Bar, free ornament-making and other activities.

•A tree-lighting ceremony lights up at 4:30 p.m. with Santa arriving on a fire truck at the corner of Second Street and Fremont Avenue. All drawings and contests will be announced at the tree-lighting ceremony. Participants must be present to win.

Downtown Elk River hosts lighting event

“Light It Up, Elk River” begins at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at River’s Edge Commons Park in downtown Elk River. There will be a tree-lighting ceremony, a choir will perform and Mayor John Dietz will speak and light the tree. There also will be information about Elk River Municipal Utilities’ Holiday Lighting Contest and an opportunity to drop off unwrapped toys or make a monetary donation for Gifts Anonymous.

Have breakfast with Santa Claus

Area Lions clubs are sponsoring several upcoming opportunities to have breakfast with Santa.

•Elk River Lions Breakfast with Santa, 8 a.m.–1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at Lions Park Center, 1104 Lions Park Dr., Elk River. Free-will donation.

•Zimmerman Lions Breakfast with Santa, 8:30 a.m.–noon Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Zimmerman Lions Civic Building (at the ballpark). Free-will donation.

•Rogers Lions Club Pancake Breakfast with Santa, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Rogers Community Center, 21201 Memorial Dr. Free-will donation.

•Nowthen Lions presents Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus, 8 a.m.–noon Saturday, Dec. 8 at Nowthen Alliance Church, 19653 Nowthen Blvd. Free-will donation; age 6 and under eat free.
