Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman gymnastics, riding four straight conference titles, will try keep it going with a new coach and many new athletes this year.
Jackie Deiley, a former Elk, succeeds Jenn Bartlett, who resigned following the 2011-12 season. Deiley previously coached at Anoka.
Captains for the Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman squad are Lindsey Koosman, Kendra Hambleton and Courtney Bursch.
Last year’s three state qualifiers are gone (two graduated, and Alyssa Walton switched to dance team at Rogers).
However, several girls with club experience have joined, mostly notably Kaylee Jondahl, a senior. Jondahl placed fourth all-around at state in ninth grade for the Elks in her lone previous high school season.
“My goal is to help each individual reach their max potential this year,” said Deiley. “We have an abundance of talent and I’m looking forward to see what they can do in competition.”
The Elks will open with a triangular at St. Francis on Tuesday.
