Police report: Inattentive driving leads to crash

Elk River driver, 18, arrested for DWI
An 18-year-old Elk River man was cited for DWI and a 17-year-old Elk River boy was cited for obstructing legal process, minor consumption, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tobacco.

At about 4:14 a.m. Nov. 17, an Elk River officer observed two males pushing a four-door passenger car across the intersection of Proctor Road at Proctor Avenue. The officer made contact with the individuals in an attempt to assist the motorists. The adult male stated he had been driving the vehicle when it stalled at the intersection, according to Elk River Police Capt. Bob Kluntz. During contact with the males, signs of intoxication were observed.

The juvenile male passenger was uncooperative and was detained by officers for obstructing legal process and cited.

Inattentive driving cause of crash
A 35-year-old Washington, D.C. man was cited for inattentive driving after a two-vehicle crash at about 3:05 p.m. Nov. 16 in the area of Highway 169 and School Street.

The Minnesota State Highway Patrol discovered that a passenger car driven by Brian Scott Zekus rear-ended a pickup being driven by Mark William Solintzky, a 59-year-old man from Vadnais Heights.

Zekus received non-life-threatening injuries and was cited for inattentive driving.

Elk River police assisted the State Patrol at the scene.

Coon Rapids woman, 24, arrested for DWI
Elk River police arrested a 24-year-old Coon Rapids woman for DWI after an officer observed a suspended object hanging from a rearview mirror shortly after midnight  Nov. 19 while traveling along School Street.

Upon stopping the motorist near the intersection of School Street and Freeport Avenue, it was discovered she did not have proof of insurance and had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

Elk River boy, 14, alleges assault
A 14-year-old Elk River boy who was outside his home playing with friends alleges he was assaulted by his 39-year-old neighbor Nov. 17 in the 19000 block of Carson Circle.

The youth told police that the man had approached him and accused him of tampering  with the man’s van.  The boy claimed the man grabbed his neck and sweatshirt and attempted to throw him to the ground. The man was cited by police for assault.

Son’s bike stolen
A 51-year-old Elk River woman reported Nov. 17 the theft of her son’s bike from the 700 block of Freeport Avenue.

Elk River assists Big Lake in pursuit
Elk River police assisted Big Lake police in a pursuit shortly before 5 a.m. Nov. 17 on County Road 15. The vehicle was stopped near County Road 4 after stop sticks were deployed to puncture the suspect’s tires.

Big Lake man, 21, arrested for DWI
A 21-year-old Big Lake man was arrested for DWI after a traffic stop at about 2:22 a.m. Nov. 17 in the area of 193rd Avenue and Highway 169.

Albertville woman alleges assault with knife
A 19-year-old Albertville woman reported she was walking in Woodland Trails Park at 12:50 a.m. Nov. 17 when, she said, she was approached by a man with a knife who grabbed her and demanded her money and jewelry, according to Kluntz.

She fled from the man and later called police from the 2000 block of Watson Street. She told police that she was able to escape from the man by striking him. Police are investigating;  nobody is in custody at this time.
