Rogers was 3-16 last year but won a tournament and sent two wrestlers to state, both “firsts” for the program. “Now we just need to keep taking steps forward from there,” said Chris Donnay, second-year coach.
They should score at 126 to 145 with Connor Larson (jr, 21-10 last year) Phillip Anderson (jr, 35-7, state qualifier), Tim Beach (sr, 23-12) and Kyler Swanson (sr, 27-13, 88 wins). Other lettermen are Ryan Lien (sr, 20-20) a 195, Tyler Eicher (jr, 160), Jordan Lemcke (so, 170), Jake Owens (so, 182), Andrew Piehl (fr, 220) and Peder Oakland (so, 285). Donny thinks Cruz Martinez (fr, 120) could help.
“We’re going to struggle filling the lower weights again, but once we get going we’re going to be tough to stop,” said Donnay.
ROYAL HOCKEY, BOYS
Eleven players who helped Rogers post three straight strong seasons (20-7 last year) have graduated but coach Tim Marchand expressed confidence that the Royals will remain very competitive. The young team is “looking to be defensively sound, with some very talented blue-liners, and a well-complemented and solid scoring punch.”
Seeing action will be Kyle Korva (sr F), Parker Veith (sr F), Brandon Spah (sr D), Tyler Antony (sr D), Blake Ternius (sr G), Connor Tokhheim (sr F), Traviis Brown (jr D), Spencer Marchand (jr F), Nate Weber (jr F), Alex Lorman (jr F), Jacob Walker (jr F), Kyle Ellis (jr F), Jake Good (jr F), Blake Timm (jr D), Branden Cecil (so G), John Stanley (s D), and Matt Hellickson (fr D).
