Swimming: Sterneman puts Thunder on scoreboard for first time, at sectional
For the first time, Zimmerman HIgh School has registered points in a swimming meet.
Thunder junior Allison Sterneman placed fourth and eighth in her events at Section 5A in Grand Rapids on Friday and Saturday.
A junior who competes with Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman during the regular season, she placed fourth in the 200 freestyle with 2:03.29, and eighth in the 500 freestyle with 5:45.44.
Zimmerman had a two-girl contingent at sectionals. The other was Elizabeth Westphal, who swam the 50 and 100 sprints.
For several years, Rogers has competed separately at section and state. This was the first year Zimmerman also had to compete separately, as per Minnesota State High School League rules.
Elk boys coach Denise Eidem accompanied the girls to Grand Rapids, as the girls staff was busy with Elk River’s and Rogers’ sectionals in Elk River and College of St. Catherine’s, respectively.
