The Elk River swimmers are in position to qualify for state in six events, possibly more, after an encouraging Section 8AA preliminary round Friday in their home pool. They had the best times in five events.

All three relays had the fastest prelim times while Courtney Grunewald and Ali Schwab each have a first and a second individually. Taylor Odegard is sitting third and fourth in sprints.

The swimming finals at Vandenberg Middle School begin 4 p.m. Saturday. The diving competition will start at noon. The Elks don’t have any leading contenders in diving.
