The Elk River Area School District’s operating levy renewal passed at the polls Tuesday, but a second question for more money and an all-day, every-day kindergarten program among other things was defeated.
There were 19,870 votes cast for the first question or 57 percent of the vote compared to 14,928 votes or 43 percent against it.
The second question garnered only 40 percent or 13,961 votes compared to 20,764 votes or 60 percent “no” votes.
“I really thought people would go for the kindergarten program,” said Sue Farber, an Elk River Area School Board member who won re-election to the School Board. “I felt so positive. That’s really disappointing.”
